The Rio Cinemas complex in Paphos is being redeveloped into a contemporary mixed-use building combining retail and office space. The project required a retrofit solution capable of integrating with the new architectural vision whilst delivering measurable environmental performance.
ClearVue supplied building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) glazing across approximately 800m² of the building envelope. The integrated package included ClearVue Solar Glazing, the ClearVue Solar Frame System and complete electrical design.
The decision to choose ClearVue’s solution was driven by four core technical requirements:
Thermal management and reliability: ClearVue’s Thermal Management Junction Box prevents hotspot formation and reverse current, extending module lifespan and ensuring long-term performance. This is critical for a retrofit where future maintenance access is constrained.
Environmental protection: IP68 water resistance protects against moisture ingress in all-weather conditions.
Bespoke integration: Project-specific sizing aligns with the existing façade and roofing systems without structural compromise.
Compliance and certification: EN 13501-1: A2-s1, d0 and AS1530.3 fire ratings meet the building’s safety requirements.
The 169 kW system will generate approximately 139 MWh of electricity annually which will help offset of the building’s operational demand.

The Rio Business Centre project demonstrates how BIPV can serve retrofit applications where traditional rooftop solar is constrained, integration risk must be minimised and architect-led design remains the guiding principle.
