ATCO Mining Hut, Murdoch University, Perth WA

In collaboration with Murdoch University researchers in the Discipline of Engineering & Energy and several other local industries, two ClearVue solar glass windows have been installed in a prototype transportable mining hut (or “donga”) at Murdoch University. This project is an initiative with major mining companies such as BHP and Rio Tinto, who are setting targets of net zero carbon emissions across their operations by 2050. ClearVuePV’s solar windows have been used in conjunction with a range of other sustainable, low carbon building products and technologies aimed to increase energy efficiency and thermal comfort for occupants, particularly FIFO workers.

Data collected from the donga’s monitoring system will be used to assess energy consumption and thermal comfort levels, which can then be used to validate a virtual building model able to simulate a mine-site based in the north of WA.
